Not By Works, Nor by Might, But By Power

Thoughts: We must be born again. You can be walking around physically but in a spiritual coma and not even realize it. We can be going about our daily lives, doing good works, visiting the sick, giving to charities, and being an upstanding citizen. And then when we stand before the Lord and he says “depart from me, I know ye not”, we might say, but Lord I did this and that…good works. But it’s not by works nor by might, but by power. If you were not born again and you never let God breathe his breath of life in you to be born again spiritually, then you are the walking dead.
You need your pass to enter heaven. The pass is not what I did. The pass is not I visited the sick. The pass is not I lived a good life. The pass is not I’m a good person. The pass is I’ve been born again. I’ve been washed in the blood of the lamb. I’ve been redeemed. I gave my life to Christ. I let God breathe his spirit in me. I’ve been transformed. I’m walking around renewed doing the will of the Lord. That’s the pass. That’s your ticket because once you give your life to Christ, you belong to him. You let Him take control and your ticket was paid by the blood of Jesus, so by faith I believe his blood, I believe in salvation. He saved me from the penalty of sin which we were all born in which is death. But I no longer have that penalty so long as I buy my ticket. That’s why I have to secure my ticket while I’m living here on earth.
God loved us so much that our ticket was free. God provided this ticket for us to get eternal life and we have to share the news that anybody can get this ticket. You don’t have to have come from a certain class of people or from a certain side of town or from a certain educational background. Anybody can get this ticket to salvation. Reflecting on black history with regards to freedom rights and slavery, people went through great strains to gain freedom. Think about the story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad and how people risked their lives for freedom. The Bible says, “We were born in sin and shaped in iniquity”…headed to hell. We needed a savior. Jesus provided this free way to freedom, and what does it take? We must stand up for Jesus. People braved the dogs, the woods, the dark, and the bad elements to get to physical freedom. What can we brave to get to spiritual freedom…our salvation freedom? That’s the most important freedom we can get to, because we’re talking about our eternal destination where your soul will reside eternally.
Life is so short but eternal is forever. Where do I want my soul to reside forever? I want it to reside where God made it to reside, with Him. When we die our physical body goes back to the dust, but the soul will go to its eternal home. If you do nothing, if you do not accept salvation, your eternal destiny won’t be heaven. I need my eternal destination for my soul to be heaven. Thank God salvation is available and it’s free.
